Artist’s Statement

Judith Lambertson

Like many artists before me, travel has been my inspiration. The most

recent body of work began in the medieval village of Guardia, Sanframondi
(campania region of Italy)

Each location offers something unique and Guardia was no exception!
I explored painting in the narrow streets, looking at crumbled churches,
layers of colors, castles high above the town, early morning light and
mysterious dusk.

I painted on an 11×14 linen pad, to capture the immediacy of plein air.
The larger studio work over the next two years often started from these
studies, and a few, from photos.

These paintings explore light, color and compressed space.
They are a synthesis of abstraction, representation and meditative silence.
